2025 Annual Campaign

Dear Friends,

The summer is a time for vacation, relaxation, and taking things a bit more slowly than usual. In the Jewish calendar, summer also marks the Three Weeks, leading up to Tisha b’Av and the commemoration of the destruction of the Beit ha-Mikdash. During this time, we are called upon to reflect on the sins that led to the Churban (destruction) and ensure that we are not repeating them. The Rabbis teach: כל דור שאינו נבנה בימיו מעלין עליו כאילו הוא החריבו – Any generation in which the Temple is not rebuilt, is considered as if it had destroyed it (Yerushalmi Yoma 1a). One of the powerful ways in which can take a role in contributing to the rebuilding of the Beit ha-Mikdash is by supporting our shuls, which are called מקדש מעט (Mikdash me’at), or little/miniature Temples. In the absence of the Beit ha-Mikdash in Jerusalem, our synagogues and communal institutions provide the best means by which to provide a taste of what took place there, and to ensure that the Jewish People remains connected to our heritage and committed to the ultimate redemption.

Netivot Shalom is launching its annual campaign during this time of introspection and reflection on the significance of synagogue in our lives. We ask everyone to please give generously to support the many ways in which Netivot enriches your religious, spiritual, and social lives. The Netivot family is there to celebrate semachot with our members and to provide comfort and support during times of sorrow and need. Our beautiful Mikdash me’at (minitature Temple) thrives on the participation of our entire membership in our davening, social programming, and learning. We provide opportunities for everyone to contribute their unique voice in shaping our community. We rely on so many people generously and enthusiastically giving of their time and energy. We also depend on the financial generosity of our members. The funds collected from membership dues do not cover our overhead and programming budget. The estimated fair share for each member is $1,500 on average, when including dues, high holiday seats, and contributions to the annual campaign. Some of our members are not able to meet that amount, while others are able to give more generously--but we ask that you keep that number in mind when making your calculations. Our shul provides a spiritual home that we cherish. We ask for your help in ensuring that we will be able to continue to fill the unique space that we offer in the Baltimore community.

Fondly,

Rabbi Elliot Kaplowitz
